OPERATIONAL WORKSITES

The on-site survey of operational worksites should evaluate the following:

  • property ownership.

  • site accessibility (left/right descending bank).

  • riverbank profile (steepness, groundcover, vegetative undergrowth, tree cover).

  • boom configuration.

  • boom anchoring mechanisms.

  • vacuum truck/skimmer positioning.

  • equipment/supply requirements (type and quantity).

  • personnel requirements (qualifications and number).

  • safety concerns/site hazards.

  • environmental considerations.

  • wildlife observations.

  • community exposures.

  • traffic controls.

  • cell phone coverage.

Data should be recorded on Work Plan/Assignment List (ICS-204) (see below).

  • acreage.

  • parking availability (# of parking spaces).

  • surface type.

  • traffic flow pattern (ingress/egress points, turnarounds).

  • safety concerns/site hazards.

  • off-site drainage patterns.

  • environmental factors (noise, dust, shade).

  • community-related issues (nearby residences, businesses, schools, hospitals).

  • utility connections (electricity, water).

  • lighting.

  • office/warehouse space.

  • potential costs.

  • cell phone coverage.

A site diagram should also be generated (refer to example below).
